More from Cranfield

I finally managed to find a working computer on this campus, and can now continue with the epic online journal. It seems as if a major virus hit the campus over the past 2-3 weeks and since most people were on vacation then, they are only now getting around to fixing them all. So for now the library is packed with students using computers.

Housing

I live with three other guys at the very end of Lanchester Road. Our house is part of a duplex, and we have four bedrooms, one common room and a kitchen. We also have a covered garage and an out-door storage shed. My room is huge! It must be atleast 25'x15'. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all the space. Two of the rooms are the same size as mine, and the other two are the size of the rooms at Tech 10x12.

Our common area is also good sized, but is spartanly furnished. We have two tables and four standard chairs. We thought about buying a second-hand couch or futon, but aren't allowed to bring in any extra furniture. We are still thinking about beanbag or inflatable furniture. The kitchen is also very good size, there are ten cabinets and 8 drawers. We've each taken a cabinet and a drawer, leaving the others for our crockery. I am so glad that I shipped a box full of kitchen supplies, because the stuff we were given is in such bad shape. We only have 4 spoons two big and two little and two normal knives. Most of our glasses were "borrowed" from some pub and none of the plates match.

The good news about the house is that we have the luxury of two toilets, which are both separate from our tub/shower. I can safely say that the Brits are in desperate need of plumbing help. I don't know what the trick is to get the toilet to flush correctly the first time, but hopefully I'll learn it soon. Also even on the highest setting our shower feels like a gentle mist.

House Mates

As I mentioned before I have three house mates. The first of which is Flo, short for Flowian, a rather jolly and self-described dodgy German. Flo is studying Air Transport and has the other large room in the house, but more importantly, Flo has a car. Next is David, a super polite Spaniard who is currently struggeling with English. He lamented to me the other day that he has been studying French for years in school, but has only recently been studying English. The last guy is Lan, a brit who came in on Thursday night to look te place over and then promptly left.

Weather

The weather was georgious all through the weekend until yesterday, when a major storm came through. Yesterday it rained and howled all day long. The temperature dropped into the 50s and the wind sustained a good 20mph speed all day. Today began similarly, but thankfully the sun has poked through, but the wind is still blowing.

More later on being the token American in a pub full of Europeans when a major bobing campaign begins.
